Our Team

Amelia

Originally from Wuhan, China, Amelia received her Master’s degree in communication and culture from Seville University in Spain. She had spent over 5 years as a bilingual Chinese/Spanish teacher and interpreter in Spain and China. Educating young children has always been her passion. She believes children learn best through play; she likes to make her class fun and lively, as well as bringing multicultural experiences to her class. Amelia is excited to be a part of Mandarin Seeds after years working in New York as a preschool mandarin immersion teacher. Outside her work time, she loves traveling and spending her time with her lovely 3 years old daughter and husband.

Chienlun

Chienlun Lee is a versatile artist from Taiwan. She has university training in Musicology, Pedagogy, and Theatre and 20-year training in Music, and all of which has provided the foundation for her professional career as a musician, vocalist, and an actor. She has performed in numerous occasions, including singing for Chinese movie Tiny Times I (小時代) soundtrack, the World Games in 2009 – The Night of the Art, and Malan Breton’s 2015 and 2016 NY fashion show as Soprano solo. Her NYC theatre credits include: off-off-Broadway play Midnight Kill as Zhao (Lead, World premiere), Exile 5.42 (Lead), Comfort Women – A New Musical (Off-Broadway), Behind The Mask (Lead, US premiere.) She is now working extensively as an actor, singer, and a Musical coach/Voice instructor in NYC. MM: Vocal Performance – Music Theatre, New York University.

Claire

Claire is passionate in applying creative methods to teaching Mandarin. She was born and raised in Taiwan, where she received her Bachelor's degrees in Chinese Literature and English Literature. Claire developed an interest in teaching young children while working at an after-school program as a second-grade teacher while in college. Subsequently, Claire graduated with a Master’s Degree in General Education from Elmira College, where she was also teaching Mandarin courses to undergraduate Students. Claire enjoys spending her leisure time playing the piano, the ukulele, and occasionally does oil painting.

Cloris

Originally from Harbin, China, Cloris received her Master’s degree in Music from Ithaca College and Artist Diploma from Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. She worked as a voice teaching assistant for 4 years. Cloris moved to New York City to pursue a career in education and has fallen passionately in love with teaching Mandarin. Her philosophy in education is that, the teachers can learn more from the students than they are able to teach. In her free time, you can always see her in the kitchen and hanging out with friends.

Fira

Born in Uyghur musical family in Urumchi Xinjiang, China, Alfira has more than 20 years of training in Music. She earned her Bachelor degree in Music composition from Shanghai conservatory of music and Master degree in Jazz Music performance
from New York Aaron Copland School of Music. She won the Gold Prize in both 17th Hong Kong Asian Piano Open Competition and Himalayas National Piano Competition. Se served as Musical Director for Alamuhan Opera at Asia Expo in Shanghai. Her work “NAWA” was performed in Hamburg Germany in 2015 and 2016 by Duo Soie+Aktuelle Muzik. She served as Music Coach of Big Apple Music Festival and several international modern music competitions. Her performance at Voce di Meche's ‘Around the World in Song’ earned her rave reviews. She is now working extensively as a Jazz singer, pianist, composer and music instructor in NYC.

Jessica, education coordinator

From Jiangxi, China, Jessica earned her Bachelor's degree in Business English from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics. After graduating from the university, Jessica taught preK-5th grade in Jiangxi New Oriental School. She developed great passion designing curriculum for the early childhood age after her years of teaching in Jiangxi. Jessica then moved to New York to pursue a dual Master's degree in TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Childhood Education from St. John's University. Jessica enjoys painting and photography in her free time. She loves documenting students' learning and sharing them with parents.

Sarah, founder/director

A native speaker from Taiwan who is fluent in Mandarin and English. Sarah also speaks Taiwanese dialect, and studied Japanese as her third language. After graduating from Stanford University with a Master degree in Computer Science, she has worked in financial industry in New York City and Tokyo for many years. Motherhood has changed her focus to her children and it has rekindled her old passion in early childhood education, music, and language. She has started Mandarin Seeds to create a playful and challenging environment where her children will be proud and happy in learning Mandarin Chinese, as well as gaining a deep understanding and appreciation of Chinese language and culture. Her biggest rewards have been seeing her two children flourish in the Mandarin Seeds world.

Shelly

Shelly was born and raised in Taiwan. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Voice Performance from National Taiwan Normal University, and Master degree in Music Education from New York University. Shelly loves children and enjoys teaching them exploring the world with music. She has completed several Teacher Training Workshops for infants and toddlers such as Music Together, MusikGarten, and Gordon Music for Early Childhood. In her free time, Shelly loves singing and cooking. 

Stephanie

Stephanie has over five years of experience working in the early education field. Having taught in New York City for some time, Stephanie has plenty of experience working with multi-cultural students and helping them navigate multiple languages and cultures.  Stephanie received her master’s degree in teaching from St. John's University. Stephanie enjoys reading Chinese literature in her free time.

Vincy, administrative assistant

Vincy was born and raised in Fujian, China. She has been living in New York for over ten years. Recently earned her B.S. Degree in Business Administration with Human Resources and Finance concentration from University at Buffalo, she also volunteered working with multicultural students in elementary schools. During her leisure time, she likes to read Chinese novels and explores different cuisines in NYC.

Yenting

As a native Mandarin speaker, Yenting was born and raised in Taiwan. She acquired her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at National ChengChi University in Taipei, Taiwan and Master of Art degree in Media Studies at New School University in New York City. She started her career as a host for children’s educational events and programs for a Taiwanese TV station in New York, which ignited her passion for early childhood education. After the birth of her child, she switched her focus to her family and start teaching her child Mandarin. Later, she obtained the certificate of “Teacher Training Program in Mandarin as a Second/ Foreign Language” from National Kaohsiung Normal University to incorporate teaching theory into hands on practice. Yenting is excited to join Mandarin Seeds and bring her joy in the art of communications through music and movements to her students. At her leisure time, Yenting enjoys cardio dancing and exploring New York City with her husband and two daughters.

Yufei, business manager

Born and raised in Taiwan, Yufei holds a masters degree in Arts Management from Carnegie Mellon University. She started her relationship with Mandarin Seeds as a parent who wanted a fun, high-quality Mandarin education for her sons to whom she speaks exclusively in Mandarin. Prior to coming to Mandarin Seeds, she designed and taught Mandarin classes to young students in another language program. Drawn to the rich curriculum at Mandarin Seeds, she took on a teaching position with the Grownup & Me program in 2016 and switched to business department in 2018. She is incredibly excited to have this role as it allows her to meet and develop relationships with new people and work with them towards shared goals - providing engaging Mandarin education/environment to the next generation. In her spare time, Yufei also operates her own baking studio, offering baking classes to adults and seasonal pastries.
